We're Goin' Surfin': Rental Corvette Abandoned in Pacific Ocean [With Videos]

Some presumably drunk people out California way decided to have a little bit too much fun in their recently-rented Corvette and ended up parked in salt water halfway up the car's doors. Thankfully in this day and age everyone has some sort of video recording device within arm's reach, so we have some post-parking-surfing videos below.

The story goes something like this: between two and four people - who may or may not have been racing - decided to roll on down to the end of Law Street (seriously) and take the normally pavement-pounding Corvette out to play in the sand. Once actually on the beach, the driver proceeded to do a few donuts, calmly drive the car into the water, and flee the scene.

The report indicates that some people who were involved have been detained, and that at least some of the expenses involved in pulling the car out of the sand could be recouped. All I can say for certain is that puling a car out of wet sand and water must have been hard as hell due to the suction; I learned that lesson when my friend took his Grand Marquis four-wheeling and the night ended...let's say poorly.

Bumblebee Camaro Crashes into Real Cop Car During Filming of Transformers 3

BUMBLEBEE is racing down a side street to catch up with the other AUTOBOTS, who have found another piece of the ALLSPARK. Suddenly, a DECEPTICON POLICE SUV appears and cuts BUMBLBEE off!

Well, not really, but it sure looks like that in this video. According to The Washington Post, the story goes that a Metropolitan Police SUV was on its way to investigate a suspicious package in the D.C. area when it strayed onto the Transformers 3 set.

Just at that moment, a yellow Chevrolet Camaro a.k.a. "Bumblebee" rounded a corner and slammed into the right side of the police vehicle in the sort of scene you previously would only have seen in a Michael Bay movie.

District Police spokeswoman Tisha Gant told The New York Times that the officer driving the SUV was taken to a local hospital and that the driver of the Camaro was uninjured.

The Camaro seems to be the worst off of the two, having sustained damage to its front end up to the wheel wells. All of us here at Carscoop are hoping and praying that Bumblebee will be okay...

VIDEO: Chevy brings 2012 Camaro Z/28 to the 'Ring

Now that the Z/28 program is back on track, GM has begun to test its Shelby-killer super Camaro at the Nürburgring. You can check out the vid below; it shows the car scooting around the track and rolling around on unsuspecting German roads.

Unlike Ford's new Mustang Boss 302, which is more in-line with its original iteration, the new Z/28 shrugs off its Trans-Am heritage for range-topping excess that's high power out-putting with better stopping and handling than the current SS.

When the car comes out next year as a 2012 model, there should be a version of the CTS-V's LSA supercharged V8 under the hood. Whether or not the engine will be re-tuned is anyone's guess at the moment, but if it were to strictly carry over I'm pretty sure no one would complain. After all, it's still got 556 horsepower, 551 lb-ft of twist, and a six-speed driving the rear wheels.

Pricing is still up in the air, but if this is meant to go up against Ford's Shelby GT500 we should be seeing it in the mid- to high-40k's before options. More info as it becomes available.

Heartbeat of America Dead? Chevrolet Kills Contract with Campbell-Ewald After 91 Years

Yet another shake-up in the world of General Motors: Chevrolet has decided to take a new advertising direction, dropping Campbell-Ewald after 91 years. Cambell-Ewald was behind such memorable tag lines as "The Heartbeat of America", "Like a Rock", and "An American Revolution"; the Chevrolet contract accounted for 25% of its business.

According to the Detroit News, the Bowtie will now be working with Publicis Worldwide, which represents big-timers like Coca-Cola, Whirlpool, and Hewlett-Packard, and has been handling some of its budding product lines.

Jim Campbell, US Chevrolet Marketing VP, was quick to thank Campbell-Ewald for the nine decades of service. After the politics, he said that "over the coming months, [Chevrolet] will transition the business to Publicis Worldwide, which has recently been handling [the] car and crossover brands."

The news comes shortly after Chrysler announced that they will also be heading in a new advertising direction, cutting ties with BBDO Detroit (forcing the firm to fire 485 people).

Campbell-Ewald will continue to work with GM, but on a much smaller scale. Bill Ludwig, Campbell-Ewald CEO and chairman, said, "We are committed to continue as one of GM's family of agencies and look forward to even more opportunities to demonstrate the breadth and depth of our capabilities."

Is it questionable to stop using a competent mainstay like Campbell-Ewald? Absolutely. At the same time, it's a breath of fresh air, something the General needs if it's ever going to get back on top.

VIDEO: GM Tests the Waters -Literally- with New Chevy Volt

Apparently, General Motors wants us to know every single detail about its new Chevy Volt EV well before it hits U.S. showrooms in late 2010, constantly releasing photographic material and video footage of the car. In this latest video, the company shows the Volt undergoing the so-called flood test at the Milford Proving Ground to measure how well the battery inside the car will be sealed. Note that, during the initial development phase, there is no real battery in the vehicle. Watch the video after the break.

VIDEO: GM Brings Chevy Volt to Classic Car Gathering in California

The new Chevrolet Volt hybrid is making the rounds in the California area as General Motors has brought a pre-production model to the sunny State for this week's Los Angeles Auto Show. The Detroit automaker's Chief Engineer, Andrew Farah, took the Volt to two popular enthusiast destinations, at Bob's Big Boy in Burbank and Cars & Coffee in Irvine. Hit the break to hear all the positive things (it's an official GM video, what did you expect...) that the people who attended the event had to say about the Volt.

VIDEO: 101-Year-Old Man Buys New Camaro SS, Becomes Oldest Owner of Chevy's Reborn Pony Car

Virgil Coffman isn't your typical 2010 Chevrolet Camaro owner. He's a centenarian who recently became the oldest known living owner of the Chevy's new muscle car after he purchased a 400 horsepower, bright yellow, Transformers edition Camaro. The 101-year-old man from Indiana says that he has owned around 40 cars in his lifetime and that he has always followed the philosophy that if you want something, just go get it. We say good for him and hope he's around to buy the next generation Camaro. Video after the break.

Video Teaser of Chevrolet's SEMA Show Camaro and Corvette Proposals

With a few exceptions, most major car shows have proven to be a bit of a disappointment this year. That doesn't seem to be the case with the tuning extravaganza called SEMA as from what we've seen up until now, the show looks quite promising. GM of course will be represented with an armada of vehicles including a series of tuned 2010 Camaros and Corvettes. But unlike Ford that chose to reveal all its vehicles, GM prefers to play its beloved game of hide and seek. If you're up to it, hit the jump to get a minute preview of Chevy's SEMA offerings.

Real or Fake? Gran Turismo Ad Shows 1969 Corvette Stingray and 1988 Lamborghini Countach Scraping Sides

After watching this Japanese Gran Turismo PSP commercial of a '69 Corvette Stingray and a '88 Lamborghini Countach clashing sides on the race track more than a dozen times, we still can't tell if it's a real-life or a computer simulated scene. But then again, that's exactly what makes this commercial so successful in our opinion; for one, you'll want to watch it again and again but most importantly, it gets the message across that the video game blurs the lines of reality and fantasy. Check out the commercial in the video after the jump.

Video Preview: Nat Geo Shows us How GM Builds the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro

Tonight at 8pm eastern time (that's Thursday October 15), the National Geographic Channel's Ultimate Factories TV show will go behind the scenes with us to reveal the ins and outs that go into building the Chevrolet Camaro pony car at GM's Oshawa plant in Canada. In contrast to the mostly hand-built Lamborghini Murcielago and Rolls Royce Phantom cars that were shown in the two previous episodes, there's a lot of robot work going on with the Camaro. All in all, it takes around 18 hours to fully assemble Chevy's muscle car with a new Camaro rolling off the assembly line almost every minute. Hit the break to watch the two teaser videos from the show.

2010 Chevy Camaro KITTed with Knight Rider LEDs

Ever since the new Camaro hit the streets, we knew that someone was bound to make a link between GM's pony car and KITT. That someone happens to be member 'Spaceballone' of the Camaro5 forums and what he did is to modify and install an LED light scanner in that little mail-slot air intake on the hood above the Chevy bowtie badge.

The UK-based company that sells the KITT LED scanner for about $160 claims that the system comes with three settings that that mimic the light patterns on the original 1980's Knight Rider 2000 car and on the Shelby GT500KR in the shortly lived Knight Rider 2008 TV series.

We're not so sure if it's legal in most places to use the LEDs while driving, so if you're thinking about installing the system, better ask before you get into any trouble.

First Recorded 2010 Chevy Camaro Crash?

With mainstream sportscars like the new 2010 Chevy Camaro, the first recorded mishap is usually the one that draws the most attention upon it. This relatively 'light' crash happened on March 20th, 2009 on Dundee Road in North Oakville, Ontario and from what we know, no one was injured. Videos of Ferrari Enzo, Lamborghini Gallardo & Corvette Z06 going Top Speed on French Highway

There's something about speed and high-end supercars that is dangerously exhilarating for all us petrol heads. It goes without saying that you should never try this at 'home' aka on a public roads, as the following videos were shot on closed sections of French highways with professionals behind the steering wheel. From what we could tell by watching the videos and comparing dashboard close-ups, the Ferrari Enzo managed to reach a top speed of close to 370 km/h or 230mph, the Corvette Z06 HUD showed 334 km/h or 208mph while the Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera topped out just below 340km/h or 211mph.

FERRARI ENZO - 370KM/H or 230MPH

LAMBORGHINI GALLARDO SUPERLEGGERA - 340KM/H or 211MPH

CORVETTE Z06 334KM/H or 208MPH

Muscle Car V8 Sound Comparo: New Camaro SS vs Challenger R/T vs Mustang GT

Masculine looks aside, one of the main traits of any authentic pony car is the sound of its V8 engine. With this in mind, Edmund's Insideline created a short video with the audio tracks of the new 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS, 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T and 2010 Ford Mustang GT. For the record, it seems that the Mustang was filmed on a different location than the other two cars, something that could have affected the sound quality. Either way, judging by this video, we'd give first place to the Stang because its V8 churns out a more consistent and less chainsaw-like sound with our second vote going to the Chevy. Check out the video after the jump cast your vote.

GM Releases "How Great the new Camaro is" Videos

Just as the 2010 Camaro begins to arrive at U.S. showrooms, the General released four new videos of its resurrected pony car that include media reactions from the presentation and a chat with the firm's Global Vehicle Line Executive, Gene Stephanyshyn, and President of Global Design, Ed Wleburn. For the record, all films were produced/edited by/for GM so don't be surprised that even the video with the automotive journalists' reactions, is about how stunningly good and flawless the new Camaro is...

Exclusive footage from Transformers 2 with all Chevy Autobots, Including Corvette and Volt

Since General Motors is investing heavily on the upcoming Transformers 2 movie, 'Revenge of the Fallen' with five Chevrolet-based characters taking roles as Autobots, it doesn't surprise us at all that the automaker managed to secure exclusive footage of the film edited by director Michael Bay. The video that follows contains scenes with all five Chevy-bots, including SIDESWIPE (Corvette Stingray concept), SKIDS and MUDFLAP (based on Chevy's Beat and Trax concepts), JOLT (Volt) and of course, BUMBLEBEE (Camaro SS).
