VIDEO: BMW X3 vs. Audi Q5 in an all-wheel drive man-made hill climb

Who would have thought that BMW's all-wheel drive systems were enough to shame Audi's famous quattro system? Not the average consumer, that's for sure (though BMW certainly has had enough time to get it right). BMW, which has actually been making AWD cars for the past 25 years, has decided to begin more aggressively targeting consumers who live in harsher climates.

According to this video, BMW's xDrive is vastly superior to Audi's quattro - at least when driving up metal inclines built by BMW... In the clip, we get a glimpse at what appears to be some sort of BMW press event and a hill climb-off between two small-ish diesel-powered premium soft-roaders: Audi's Q5 and BMW's X3.

Although the X3 depicted here may not be the first pick on a lot people's lists, the comparison below is just used as an example. After all, xDrive is now available on a variety of products in BMW's lineup. Could it be that BMW has bested Audi at its own game?

VIDEO: Audi's Quattro Concept in Slow Motion and with Techno

Interested in seeing vids of the new 'anniversarious' Audi quattro concept? You know you are, and we aim to please. As a brief recap, you should know that this RS5-based concept is powered by a 408-horsepower inline-five displacing 2.5 liters that spins all four wheels through a 6-speed stick.

Below, you can check out some videos - one techno-backed and short, the other long, quiet, and mostly slow motion - highlighting some of the car's killer (checkered tail lights) and not so killer (the entire front end?) Details. Click on over to our earlier post for the full deets, but leave your opinions in the comments right down below.

From what we've been seeing in that previous post, a lot of you readers aren't too keen on it. Now that you've seen a little more, has your opinion changed? You just know Audi's listening, so do the comment thing below.

Audi Brand Promo: Nothing Sticks Like Quattro [with Video]

At the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in Canada, communications Company Lowe Roche has stuck hundreds of 1:43 scale Audi quattro models to metal surfaces as part of an ad campaign by Audi.

Fitted with strong magnets and stuck to lamp posts, newspaper boxes and the like, passers-by were encouraged to remove the die-cast models and take them home with them. On the underside of each model is a sticker that reads, "Nothing sticks like quattro."

The models include the Audi R8 coupe / convertible, Q5 SUV and TT.

"We wanted to give people a real demonstration of how great the [quattro all-wheel-drive] system is. It's also a great way to get the brand into the consumer's hand." said Geoffrey Roche, company founder and chairman of Low Roche when asked about the campaign.

Audi is also pushing its wares through magazine and newspaper ads, escalator wraps and online advertising through the festival, which is held annually each September.

Mystery Audi Sports Coupe / Spyder (R4?) Filmed at Ski Resort in the Alps

Audi gone viral or someone at the right place, with... almost the right equipment at the right time? Well, we can't answer that, but we do know that a Youtube user filmed a series of videos showing a mysterious Audi sports coupe (or Spyder) in covers being transferred via helicopter to the Olympia Ski Resort in the Tyrolean Alps, close to Innsbruck, in Austria - or at least that's what we understood, so any corrections welcome. The person who filmed the car said Audi was making some sort of a promotional video.

The mysterious Audi sport coupe's shape looks very similar to the e-Tron Concept model shown at the Detroit motor show earlier this year, but that's all we could make about the vehicle from the videos we've added below.

While the possibilities are almost endless, recent reports from Germany suggest that along with the A7 Sportback and S1 hot hatch, Audi will lift the covers off a more production ready version of the e-Tron Concept called the R4 - possibly in Spyder form- at this month's Paris Motor Show.

Could this be that car or is it something different such as a concept version for a new TT? Watch the videos below and share your thoughts in the comments section.

Hat tip to Marcus!

Audi Releases Video and Photos of R8 Spyder from Iron Man 2

As you've probably already heard, Audi has once again teamed up with the creators of the original blockbuster Iron Man marketing its R8 Spyder in the sequel as the personal car of billionaire inventor Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.).

Of course, the German firm is trying to make the best of its participation in the movie releasing a dedicated commercial as well as photos from the world premiere of Iron Man 2, which took place on Monday in Los Angeles and saw Robert Downey Jr. arriving at the El Capitan Theatre in the drop-top supercar. Hit the jump for both the video and photo gallery.

DTM Driver + Audi R8 V10 Spyder + Underground Parking - Bad Acting = One Fun Video

Do you know that Audi's V10 R8s are the brand's top and highest-performing models? Of course you do. And that their 5.2 liter engines put out 525 horsepower at a screaming 8,000 RPM? Good, then I just saved you a couple minutes in poorly dubbed PR gibberish.

For the goodness that is Audi DTM driver Mattias Ekström taking an R8 Spyder through some paces in a parking garage, fast forward to the 2:05 mark and enjoy the roar. As for the dialog, Top Gear it ain't.

VIDEO: Audi RS5 Meets Ur-Quattro Coupe on the Track in New Promo Film

All companies like to make a connection between their past and current offerings to try to promote the fact that DNA is passed on to their next generation of products and Audi is no exception to this rule.

For the first official film on the RS5 that premiered at this month's Geneva automotive gathering, Audi brought along the coupe's forefather, the original Ur-Quattro of the 1980s, which can be seen in the first video clip after the jump (from 3:00 to 3:45).

As we all seeing the two cars together, the first video also provides us with some 6 minutes of driving footage (don't forget to turn up the volume...) of the 2011 RS5 while the second film is all about beauty shots of the coupe's interior and exterior.

The top-dog A5 features a naturally aspirated 4.2-litre V8 producing 450-horsepower and 332lb ft or 430Nm of torque under the hood, with power transferred to all four wheels through a standard seven-speed dual-clutch S tronic transmission and a center differential in the quattro drivetrain.

That's enough to propel the 1725kg / 3,803lbs four-seater coupe to 62mph (100km/h) in 4.6 seconds, before reaching an electronically limited top speed of 155mph (250km/h).

Sales of the Audi RS5 Coupe will begin this Spring with a European base price of around €77,000. For the full photo gallery of the RS5, click here to check out our previous post.

VIDEO: DTM Pilot Takes Audi's A1 Mini for a Spin on the Track

Wondering what a professional driver has to say about the new 2011 Audi A1? Well, here's your chance to find out as Audi invited DTM (or German Touring Car Championship) pilot Markus Winkelhock to take the premium supermini for a quick spin around the firm's Neustadt test track.

"The car is very well sprung. It swallows up bumps of almost any size without any amplification of the motions," said Winkelhock when describing his impressions. "After driving the Audi A1 for the first time, my opinion is clear: It's the benchmark in the small compact class," Winkelhock concluded.

Not that we question Winkelhock's expertise nor the A1's capabilities especially since we haven't had the chance to drive the car, but we can't imagine Audi or any other automaker for that matter releasing an official video where the driver would have something negative to say about the vehicle or even worse, give praise to a rivaling model - just saying...

Autonomous Audi TTS Takes Driving Out of the Equation [with Video and Photos]

This here is the Autonomous Audi TTS, a research model for a car that does away with the driver altogether in order to explore the best capabilities of current and future driver assistance technologies. The prototype car is the collaborative work of the Volkswagen Group Electronics Research Laboratory (ERL), the Stanford University Dynamics Design Lab (SDDL) and Sun Microsystems.

Nicknamed after Michelle Mouton, one of the most successful female rally drivers ever, the Autonomous TTS is equipped with a fully automated drive-by-wire system that controls the steering, throttle, brakes, gearbox and parking brake as well as a special GPS system to help communicate with the piloting software developed by the researches over at Standford University.

The software package is what enables the vehicle to drive at the limits of handling in various speeds and conditions on a range of surfaces.

While Audi doesn't intend to use the Autonomous TTS to completely substitute the driver (or at least we hope it doesn't...), the company says that the technology found in the car could help dramatically reduce the number of fatalities worldwide by intervening in hazardous situations as well as to take over routine driving tasks such as parking the car in an assigned spot in a garage.

The prototype model is still in the testing phase but if all goes well, Audi is considering a run up at Colorado's famous Pikes Peak to replicate the 12.4-mile Pikes Peak International Hill Climb sometime in the first quarter of 2010.

Who's a Pussy Now? Video of Audi TT Driver Takes Leopard for a Spin

Not that we agree, but the Audi TT is often referred to derogatorily as a "hairdresser's car". Well, let's just say that we'd really like to see someone go up to this particular TT driver and tell him that in his face, or better yet, let him know it via the front-passenger's side window... VIDEO: Mystery Audi Sedan Prototype Caught on Tape, is it the 2011 A8 or the New A6?

Audi has us all confused lately with its 2011 A6 and A8 test cars as it's very difficult to tell one car from the other with certainty. For example, check out this video shot in Mexico that shows a somewhat lightly camouflaged Audi test mule on the road. Now, can you tell us if what we're looking at here is a prototype for the new-generation A8 that will be unveiled at the end of the month or for the redesigned A6 which is slated to be introduced next year? VIDEO: New Audi A5 Sportback in Motion

Here's the first video of the all-new Audi A5 Sportback that joins the ever-expanding cast of the so-called four-door coupes or if you prefer, sport sedans with coupe-like styling details such as slick rooflines and frameless doors. Scheduled to arrive in European showrooms in September, the latest addition in Audi's A4 - A5 family will offer buyers an initial choice of six engines - three diesel and three gasoline, ranging from 170HP to 265HP. At least for now, Audi says that the A5 Sportback won't be coming to the U.S. market. Watch the video after the jump.

VIDEO: Audi R8 Spyder Spied Barely Camouflaged on the Nurburgring

Ever-expanding Audi is adding the final touches on the R8 Spyder (could be named Spider though) that is expected to premiere at the Frankfurt motor show in September. A thinly disguised prototype model of Ingolstadt's drop-top supercar was captured on film during testing at the Nurburgring race track. Despite the fact that only the rear window seems to be covered, the dark finish does not allow us to view the design in all its glory. What is clearly visible though is the R8 Spyder's fabric roof.

If we're not mistaken, the prototype seen in the spy footage appears to be equipped with Audi's 5.2-liter V10 FSI that churns out 525HP at 8,000 rpm and a peak torque of 530Nm or 390.91 lb-ft. Unverified reports from both sides of the Atlantic suggest that the R8 Spyder will initially be available only with the V10 engine, though we find it hard to believe that the German firm won't offer the smaller 4.2-liter V8 engine in the near future.

VIDEO: Audi's Chief Designer Draws the new A5 Sportback

In addition to the cryptic shots and preliminary specifications of the A5 Sportback, Audi also published a video with the firm's Chief designer, Wolfgang Egger, drawing a sketch and explaining a few details on the car's styling. In Audi's own words, the A5 Sportback is "as elegant as a coupe and as practical as an Avant" but that's something we'll need to see for ourselves. It took them a while, but the folks over at Ingolstadt finally released official video footage of their all-new A5 Convertible that will be making its premiere at the Geneva Show.
